This timely coordination is crucial. We encourage all humanitarian/development actors to join forces to address the immediate life-saving needs of communities affected by the worsening drought, while simultaneously investing in structural solutions and future prevention measures.
1/3: Discussions focused on SoDMA’s immediate response plans, available resources, governance frameworks for transparent access, and the key gaps constraining scale-up of life-saving assistance.
3/ President Hassan Sheikh urged government leaders, Somali businesspeople, humanitarian agencies, and international partners to unite in supporting communities facing severe drought-induced hardships.
2/3: In a strong show of leadership, the President directed full tax exemption for all humanitarian aid entering the country and ensured unhindered humanitarian access nationwide—critical steps to accelerating support to affected communities.

The key takeaway: The response will be a whole-of-government approach, grounded in evidence-based decision-making.
Today, I had the critical opportunity to present at a forum convened by MoPIED, attended by all key production sector ministries and the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM).
4/ Concluding the forum, Commissioner Mohamud Moallim stressed that Somalia is facing a critical drought situation and called for collective, coordinated action to save lives and protect livelihoods.
My briefing focused on providing the evidence base for immediate and short-term drought response planning to inform decision-making.
The central question before the forum was whether to escalate the Food Security Crisis Preparedness Plan (FSCPP) to the resource mobilization stage
