They have turned the instruments of the state into instruments of vendetta. They have chosen to punish vision, to criminalise boldness, and to reward the very culture of excuses and failure that Mallam once confronted with uncommon resolve. But let it be known that no amount of detention can diminish the stature of a man who has already written his name in the conscience of a people. The bars that hold him today are not the measure of his guilt; they are the measure of the fear he inspires in those who cannot match his record.

Mallam Nasir El-Rufai must be freed. Not as an act of mercy, but as an act of justice.
