I still laugh at the Smart Cities Mission disaster. Now, even the MPs and MLAs of these so-called “smart cities” don’t call them that anymore, and even the PM seems to have forgotten about it. 😭
Well, at least some BJP ministers and babus managed to make generational wealth from it.
This UPI MDR might be a totally useless idea but it has a huge lesson for Govt. Just see how difficult it's for Govt to charge fees on UPI via MDR after it has been free for years.
Now imagine the day Govt can't afford to give freebies. The way it's increasing before every election, at some point it will become unsustainable and Govt has to stop freebies, that will create unrest and make people hit the streets, because if given without any conditions, people start thinking Freebies as their right.
If Govt really keeps the nation above everything, they should make a law to stop new elections freebies right away otherwise it's just a matters of time, it'll explode.
Hope some people are still there with active brain cells and courage to take right decisions in Govt.
UPI MDR is only going to burden the low margin businesses.
The director of a Pharma company shared the impact on his business.
It’ll cost them ₹1.2 Crores a year in UPI TAX.
Assuming a 2-3% margin business, it’s a 11-17% hit on gross profits.
May as well lead to losses for many businesses if they don’t switch.
Ashneer Grover (BharatPe) opposed the MDR on UPI from the start.
Nithin Kamath (Zerodha) , believes the proposed MDR structure doesn’t really make sense for investing and broking.
Petrol pump dealers across India have threatened to stop accepting UPI payments of 2,000 above & switch to cash.
Meanwhile, some uneducated influencer thinks MDR on UPI is a must and that consumers will not be affected.

Indian athletes arrived in Japan for the Asian Games. They waited 14 hrs for an accommodation.
If this were India, people would have opened their homes, 5 star hotels would have been booked. Still we would have been hauled over coals. Very few cultures respect guests more than ours.
