Because Pakistan inherited better irrigated Indus Valley.

If India had used its leverage over the Indus river, India could have choked Pakistan. Instead, India in 1960 signed the Indus Water Treaty and let Pakistan take 80% of the water in the Indus system.

Worse, India didn't even use our remaining 20%!

All the water in the Ravi river is ours, as part of the treaty. India just had to build the dam on the river and keep the water which was ours, for our farmers.

And this dam (Shahpur Kandi barrage) was not built until Modi govt pushed and got it done in 2024!

Why did it take so long? Because J&K and Punjab govt were quarreling over the project, even as our water was flowing free into Pakistan 🤦‍♂️
