Why should FESCO consumers, among the most honest and timely paymasters, be penalised for the inefficiency and poor recovery performance of other DISCOs? The current uniform tariff policy is fundamentally unjust, as it places an undue burden on high-performing regions while subsidising loss-making ones. This approach rewards inefficiency, demoralises compliant consumers, and undermines the very principle of accountability.

Furthermore, the continued cross-subsidisation of other sectors, particularly by industrial consumers, is unsustainable and economically damaging. Our industry already bears one of the highest power costs in the region, compromising competitiveness and export potential.

The Power Division and policymakers must act on war footing to reform this flawed structure. Tariffs must reflect performance and cost, not politics. It’s time to protect the rights of responsible consumers and drive genuine efficiency in the power sector.
