They probably just do Sinestros fallout with Hal and the corps. This could showcase more off world lanterns while Hal's consciousness could help John deal with Sinestros threat in the present and John's possible corruption due to the yellow impurity and birth of a first yellow ring.

You do a story centered around John investigating one of Hals old missions that comes back, you write in a way for Hal's consciousness to still be in the present with John and have the past story arc with Hal as GL. You keep the chemistry John and Hal have while also showcasing more of Hal's GL lore.
