Who knows what the children have seen on the news or heard at home this week, or over the coming weeks.

When we get back to school we must show them the value of tolerance, inclusivity, empathy and respect.

Right from day one, in every classroom. Show them what really matters.

@TTRadioOfficial Great for teachers but our support staff are leaving in droves because of their poor pay. Teachers are well paid - support staff are not, and yet a school needs both. This needs balancing up. Our support staff can earn more in our local shops than they do working at school.

@Oldprimaryhead1 Yes, a lot to do with social media issues or arguments online between groups of girls or boys. Parents think it’s the school’s responsibility….

@JeremyVineOn5 @adepstein1 @_JessicaDavies @theJeremyVine If the days off are just redistributed in a calendar year, it’s still time off. If the days off are taken away then remember all school staff will need paying, as they don’t get paid for working a full year, so a HUGE cost implication.

@NickyGNickster @NAHTnews @ASCL_UK @ISBL_news The issue is funding of schools - the rest of SLT spend a lot of time ticking the Ofsted box, the rest of the running of the school is left to SBMs but no funding to build a team who can help. LA wash their hands of supporting those other functions due to their lack of funding…

@HTMISTERK Yes I agree, but Head is unwilling to review this, as it “works” this way hence not sure where to go. Our Deputy doesn’t overlap these things, they don’t get involved at all. So interesting how it varies school to school.

@JayEllePeaElle Thanks for this, it’s so interesting how schools differ. So your admin team take all the calls from teachers and organise their cover arrangements each morning? Do they get paid from 6:30am, or is it just one of those expectations?

@HTMISTERK Staffing - organising cover for same day and future absences for teachers and support staff. Timetabling specialist teachers, wellbeing initiatives, working with the Head re. Sept 2024 staff structure (all staff). Policies, policies, policies (arghhhhh)….

@Headteacherchat Support staff appraisals … teachers always too busy, SLT say they have too many to do already with teaching staff so (in my 16+ years) they’ve never happened and I’m told everyone is “just used to it”. Would love to see that changed….
