🇺🇬 BALAAM: UGX 900 MILLION FOR ONE KILOMETRE, BUT ONLY 10 METRES DONE?

Minister of Local Government Balaam Barugahara has defended tougher action against suspected corruption after citing a road project he inspected in Pakwach.

According to Balaam, Government had budgeted UGX 900 million for one kilometre of low-cost surface road, but he found only about 10 metres completed, with the responsible engineer saying only UGX 12 million remained.

“For heaven’s sake, for how long are we going to lose money under impunity?”

Balaam argued that repeated audit reports without consequences are not enough.

“If you remain making reports and putting them in Parliament… the Auditor General has made several reports, no action taken.”

He said the approach should not be viewed as a personal “Balaam model”, but as a response to citizens increasingly demanding accountability for public money.

As an Arsenal fan, I supported Bayern against Chelsea, Barcelona against Manchester United (twice), and Real Madrid against Liverpool.

In fact, I never backed an English side to win the UCL against a non-English opponent—unless Arsenal were involved. Call it karma, but that’s me.
