A 24-year-old woman, Emiliane Tamara Nunes Carvalho, has been rescued after allegedly being held captive for five days in a house in Águas Lindas de Goiás, Brazil.
Reports say she was found gagged and restrained by her ankles, arms and neck after allegedly being abducted by her ex-partner, Ailton Rodrigues de Souza, following a medical appointment on August 17.
Police reportedly arrested the suspect in flagrante on August 21 after he resisted arrest. A 9mm pistol, sedatives and restraints were allegedly seized from the property.
This is what remains of a church in Jwak Maitumbi, a village in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria.
It was burned and destroyed by armed militants identifying as Fulani.
Those who deny the genocide in Plateau State call these attacks mere farmer-herder clashes. But this was not a farm. This was a church — holy ground — a place of healing and peace — reduced to ashes. This is the handiwork of the same people who are routinely exonerated for persecution-related crimes.
On Tuesday, August 13, the Baptist Church in Jwak Maitumbi became the latest church in Mangu to be targeted in unprovoked violence. Armed terrorists shouting “Allahu Akbar” stormed the village. They killed at least one Christian, injured another, and set fire to the church and more than 50 Christian homes.
This is not an isolated incident. Over 50 churches have already been burned and destroyed in Mangu alone in similar attacks.
And the pattern is consistent: As with the previous church burnings, there were Muslim communities and farms all around the attackers, including directly along the path they took to reach Jwak village. None were harmed. Today, the entire Christian population of the village has been displaced. Only Muslims can access the village without security protection.
If this is a farmer-herder clash, why is only a church in ruins?
If this is not religiously motivated, why are only Christian homes burned while Muslim communities around them are untouched?
May God help us in Nigeria
