The MDCN just dropped a memo on CPD, and we need to talk about the reality of what this means for every Nigerian doctor.
For those wondering, CPD (Continuing Professional Development) is basically the council’s way of ensuring we aren't practicing with "expired" knowledge. To get your license every year, you now have to prove you’ve sat through enough seminars and courses to earn 20 units.
In theory, this is great. A doctor who stops learning is a danger to the public. But in practice? It’s starting to feel like a subscription service we never asked for. We just survived a massive hike in annual license fees, and now we’re expected to pay separate fees to buy these CPD points.
If the goal is truly self-improvement and better patient outcomes, why isn't this training free? Or at the very least, why isn't it covered by the licensing fee we already pay?
It’s even more frustrating for our colleagues in the diaspora. They are already doing CPDs to satisfy regulators in the UK or US, yet they’re being asked to pay extra to keep their Nigerian license active. If a fee must exist, it should be uniform and transparent. A doctor is a doctor, regardless of where they are currently practicing.
What do you guys think? Is the MDCN overstepping with these extra costs, or is this a fair price for “standardization"?
I really don’t know how to explain it, but this feels like music.
Like if someone asked me to define music and give examples, this song would be one of them.
It sounds like what music is supposed to sound like.
Behind the Activ-Go" branding is a stark reality: Nigerian Milo is a sugar bomb sold as nutrition. While the world cuts back on processed sugar, our local formula remains a concentrated health risk.

Nestlé has recalled these baby products.
So before you mix that next bottle for your baby, read this thread carefully as it concerns their well being.
If you feed your baby NAN, SMA, or Alfamino, a toxic bacteria has been found in some batches. And you might have it in your house right now.
You see, Nestlé has issued a massive global recall for several baby formulas (products in the image above) because they found a toxin called Cereulide (from Bacillus cereus bacteria) in some batches.
This toxin causes severe nausea and vomiting in babies. And the scary part is that boiling water does NOT kill it. The toxin is heat-resistant. So even if you prepare the formula correctly, if the powder itself is contaminated, your baby is at risk.
Now, NAFDAC has not released a specific alert for Nigeria yet. BUT our markets are porous. And people import ‘UK SMA’ and ‘Imported NAN’ every single day. So if you buy your formula from supermarkets that stock imported goods, or you bought it abroad, you need to check the last stock to see if your tin look like any of those products.
If yes, go to Nestle’s UK Website (SMA & Alfamino) and Nestle’s MENA Website (NAN) to verify if your batch does not fall under the recalled ones.
If your batch code matches the ones on that list, please DO NOT USE IT.
And please, don't keep this information to yourself.
If you have a friend, sister, or neighbor who uses SMA, NAN, or Alfamino, retweet this or send this to them NOW.
You might be saving a baby from poisoning today.
I hate how calm the government is about the NARD strike.
it’s almost like nothing is happening and nobody cares.
Especially considering how vital healthcare professionals are to any nation.
A government that doesn’t care about its healthcare workers clearly doesn’t care about its people.
A passionate call to the Coordinating MoH & SW:
Doctors are suffering...
A frustrated doctor is an angry doctor ...
An hungry/ exhausted doctor is a very dangerous doctor...
i hate that we’re getting to the point where news of doctors dying on duty because of stress/exhaustion is no longer rare/shocking. this is insane. very insane.
