A binary is a dead end. Six months later when you need to tweak the logic, you need the source anyway. Code is the durable artifact; the binary is disposable output. Source code is the audit trail.

Windows SmartScreen, macOS Gatekeeper, and enterprise AppLocker policies all want signed binaries from an accountable publisher. An AI vendor signing arbitrary generated executables would make them the legal publisher of code they can’t fully verify — that’s a liability nobody wants.

The gap isn’t capability — it’s that shipping source-plus-build keeps the human in the trust loop, which is a feature, not a limitation.

It seems like it would make more sense to only disengage AutoPilot/FSD if the driver is accelerating a certain percentage over the posted speed limit. If that guy was in a 35mph zone doing 73, perhaps the right thing to do is disengage AutoPilot/FSD and potentially even slow them down. If you really care about safety that seems like a solid move. A car with as much intelligence as a Tesla has should also be able to determine if this person is driving recklessly. I wouldn't mind hearing an opposing viewpoint about this or a good reason not to.
