Immunotherapy is usually ineffective in pancreatic cancer, but this paper shows there's two opportunities to boost the response
1. If the pancreatic cancer is associated with pancreatitis
That's shown here - the response to immunotherapy (in mice) is only effective when pancreatic cancer is associated with long-term pancreatitis (LP):
2. The immune environment of pancreatitis can be replicated (in mice) using a vaccine of dendritic cells, loaded with cancer antigens
This means that anti-PD1/CTLA4 immunotherapy can be effective, even in the absence of pancreatitis:
