The Junior A hurling championship gets underway this Wednesday. There are 12 teams in the competition divided into 2 groups of 6 & the group stages will be played over the next 5 weeks.

Could I be any more environmentally friendly, straw was chopped, cover crop sown & now drilling Joyau winter barley directly into the cover crop. Time to cross the fingers & hope for the best!!! 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

Weight heifers on Saturday after being outwintered, they averaged 358kgs. Over the 4 months they gained on average 120kgs/head on Interval(.5ac/hd), silage(1.2 bales/hd) & 1.5kg beef ration/hd/day. Very pleased especially considering how bad the winter was.

Weanling heifers loving life on their diet of good quality silage & Interval forage rape. Only a few days in the rape but already cleaning it out well. I put SugarBoost on all my silage, it really helps with quality & intake levels.

@athyfarmer @AgritechIreland They have constant access to an adjoining grass field. No need for it though, they spend all their time in the rape. Maybe as the winter goes on they’ll lie in the grass field, time will tell 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️. I agree the rules for forage crops are a bit nuts.

Trying a bit of an experiment today, using the disc to roll the beans. Crosscutter discs are only down a few centimetres but are filling in the slots left by the Claydon nicely. I’ll use the roller on some too as a comparison. Fingers crossed it’s not a disaster 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️
