@Jonyduck93 lol no matter how you spin it they hurt you guys. Verbeek left the door open for them to do it. Forced your hand and structured the contract in a way that doesn’t favor Anaheim at all. You’re rather paying him 18 mil and he’s a UFA at 26yo or you lose your star 1C.
@DZoneLiability@ivandemigoal And who are you to determine his “actual worth”? His worth is what the guy signing his check is willing to pay. 18M is his worth to Philadelphia, we’ll see if Anaheim agrees.
Also, Mcdavid would have the same amount of cups now, if he had taken the max contract he could receive
@northr90@ZachCav@SportingTrib “hours before the offer sheet”. This was last minute after they had an entire year to work out a contract extension. He should have been extended before the offseason. And now there’s a good chance they will match it and be paying him 18m AAV.
@97oilers97@mcclusk It’s Connor McDavid. He could’ve said he only wants to sign 1 year contracts every season at whatever the new max is and he would’ve gotten that lol. He wants to win so desperately he’s left more money on the table than any player in league history and oilers have failed him
@northr90@ZachCav@SportingTrib I agree with what you just said about Leo. Do you have a source that he was offered 10-13 by the ducks and rejected? I have seen no such thing even after researching just several reports of Verbeek mismanaging negotiations with young players which it appears is what happened here
@northr90@ZachCav@SportingTrib A good gm locks up their young stars prior to offer sheets becoming a possibility. Verbeek has no leverage, he’s now forced to sign him to $5-8m more than he could’ve a year ago and to an extremely player friendly structured contract that allows him to hit UFA in 5 years 😂
@Chriswienberg1@MannyMac_ He isn’t required to play his ass off in the scenario Yzerman doesn’t budge and he’s still under DET control come next season. Yzerman is botching this situation that 10 years of him botching his job as a gm created and it’s hilarious DET fans still think otherwise.
@DZoneLiability@ivandemigoal He was offered the most money in NHL history at the age of 21 and will be hitting free agency again at 26 and in the prime of his career. If he wants to take less money then, he can if he wants to. You don’t negotiate yourself down in this unprecedented situation.
