Somaliland now plans to develop Berbera, a port city on the Gulf of Aden, as another digital gateway in the region.
The fibre route will connect Ethiopia, South Sudan and other markets, alongside Kenya’s Mombasa gateway.
It was an honor to welcome Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi to my office in Washington today.
The people of Somaliland have worked hard to strengthen their relationship with the U.S. and our allies. It's why I'm proud to lead legislation that supports removing barriers to U.S. financial markets, which is great for both of our nations.
The President delivered one of the most powerful and compelling speeches on the international stage confident, visionary, and worthy of the moment.
"The focus of our diplomacy has always been on deeper engagement with those who share our values. That patient, principled approach has helped Somaliland emerge as a reliable partner in a region that desperately needs one." President @Abdirahmanirro
I am deeply honored and profoundly grateful to H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (@Abdirahmanirro), President of the Republic of Somaliland, for appointing me as the Representative of the Republic of Somaliland to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
I accept this sacred responsibility with humility and a steadfast pledge to serve my nation with the utmost professionalism, integrity, and honor.
Somaliland and Ethiopia share a relationship rooted in history, mutual respect, and common aspirations—a bond as meaningful as any between two brotherly nations. I am fully committed to translating that enduring relationship into tangible action and lasting progress for both our peoples.
It is, furthermore, a distinct privilege to write this message at such an auspicious moment, as Ethiopia welcomes Ethiopian New Year 2019 (Enkutatash). On this joyful occasion, I extend my warmest wishes to the Government and the brotherly people of Ethiopia. May the coming year bring peace, prosperity, and continued blessings to our neighbor and friend.
Happy Ethiopian New Year 2019 to Ethiopia! 🎉

In my 30 years in this line of work, I never posted a picture with heads of state or celebrity politicians, but for Somaliland, I’ll make an exception.
The sixth president of the Republic of Somaliland Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi is visiting Washington, asking for recognition of his nation’s self-determination, independence and sovereignty.
Even though neighboring Somalia receives billions of dollars in foreign aid, Somaliland that cannot access such money until it is recognized as a state has a GDP per capita that’s 30 percent higher than Somalia.
Somaliland is stable and democratic. Somalia is a mess.
Sagal Abdi-Wali - my friend and colleague, is standing for selection in Keir Starmer's London seat, Holborn & St Pancras. Currently leader of the Council with a wealth of experience, she would be the first Somali woman in the British Parliament, if she won the seat for Labour
