This Gandhara sculpture, unusually large to reflect Buddha’s divine stature, once graced a temple altar. Adorned with auspicious symbols like the svastika(solar power), lotus(purity), tri-ratna(Buddhist Trinity), & chakra(wheel of Dharma), it embodies deep spiritual significance.
Raja Ravi Varma’s press played a key role in popularizing Shivaji Maharaj’s iconic image through striking oleographs. These artworks, created in the late 19th & early 20th centuries, immortalized him as a valiant and just ruler, leaving an indelible mark on Indian history & art.
On May 6, 1968, the Government Museum and Art Gallery, designed by Le Corbusier, one of the most renowned architects of modernism, was inaugurated.
