So the Essential Elements band method has basically cancelled Stephen Foster by removing most of his songs. I have to now figure out another composer to epitomize the early Tin Pan Alley era.

Sending up prayers this morning for the great Sammy Nestico, who I just read is receiving hospice care at home. the last standing of the great Big Band arrangers, Mr. Nestico authored a staggering number of listenable and pedagogically solid concert and jazz band arrangements.
