Many in Somalia believe that the UK gov @10DowningStreet has been supporting Somaliland, working behind the scenes to undermine @Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The UK's reluctance to condemn the Ethiopia-Somaliland MOU until the last moment has only strengthened the accusation of UK backstabbing.

As noted in the interview below, @BritishIntinv has invested over $1 billion in Somaliland. Despite Somalia's objection, the UK-registered company @GenelEnergyplc is exploring oil and gas in Somaliland. Is the UK working to split up Somalia for financial gain?

Also in the interview, it is stated that the Somali government has no means to enforce its claim on Somaliland. To get the ball rolling for further diplomatic and legal action, we urge the Somali government to prove this claim wrong by issuing @INTERPOL_HQ Red Notices against the leadership and employees of foreign companies operating and extracting Somalia's natural resources in Somaliland without the permission of the Somali Federal Government

We revised our country strategy for #Sudan, and I wanted to share a highlight here.

Levels of displacement and suffering have spiked, basic services largely suspended and the economic system is collapsing, multiple armed conflicts have fragmented the country, and the broader humanitarian response has become compromised and imbalanced.

So over 2024-25 our team is focusing on four strategic objectives:
-scaling up #humanitarian assistance in conflict-affected areas, especially #Darfur, #Kordofan, #Khartoum
-increasing coordinated, multisector response to #urban #displacement in central, east, and north areas
-tripling support for #local|ly-led #relief
-advocating for regional & global powers to support principled & effective humanitarian action and civilian #protection across Sudan

Over the next two years, we're aiming to assist at least two million people inside the country, to better support those working on the frontlines, and to also drive some strategic initiatives for systemic change.

Humanitarian response isn't a panacea - in fact, it's only a tool to limit and reduce suffering and death.

We hope very much for a breakthrough in transitional solutions which tackle the root causes of this deepening humanitarian catastrophe, or even a temporary measure such as a military ceasefire that provides millions of families some respite - but neither are mandatory pre-requisites for necessary humanitarian action. If anything, until these are effectuated, humanitarian action will need to scale up.

Frankly, our planning assumptions are still bleak, but much is happening and much is possible to help thousands more people survive. But all organisations and people responding - but especially local responders - need greater global support and solidarity this year.
