Ethiopia's spymaster is in Mogadishu for undisclosed consultation regarding the current crisis in the region. A stable Somalia is in the interest of Addis for several reasons: First, Addis and Mogadishu will always live together. The only question is how? The UAE and the promoters of the "axis of secessionism" will stay in the region seasonally, not permanently. For example, ten years ago, the UAE was not as active in the Horn of Africa Region as it is today. The same could happen soon, and we could see the UAE packing and leaving the region, or perhaps supporting other armed groups in northern Ethiopia; this scenario is very probable given the history of the eccentric rulers of the UAE.

Another fact is sociological. Ethiopia, with 10 million Somalis in the Somali Regional State of Ethiopia, has also more than 60 million Ethiopians (Sunni) Muslism, thus making Islam the largest faith (Christianity is split into Orthodox, Evangelical, and Catholic denominations; otherwise the two religions would have been 50/50). Given these facts, Ethiopia's future economic development and stability rest not on drones supplied by the UAE, but internal cohesion buttressed by an enduring relationship with stable Somalia, which has about 22 million Sunni Muslims spread out along the long stretches of the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean. A peaceful relationship among the states in the region gives to all sides a better alternative for realizing "nabad iyo cano," or "bread and peace." Ethiopia should stop undermining Somalia and vice versa.
