Mutable OS

Building Mutable OS — a FOSS, local-first, programmable medium for documents, knowledge & computation. Blocks, standoff markup, hypergraphs.

Codex OS is now Mutable OS.

What began as an experimental document editor has grown into a FOSS, local-first programmable medium for documents, knowledge & computation.

The new name reflects that evolution & avoids the increasingly crowded “Codex” name.

When they said that photography would replace painting what really happened was that it ruined painting.

Generations of figure painters were corrupted by photographic compositions, forgetting the ancient art of relief/fresco style composition.

@Timothy_ose Right? He was insane and inhuman.

Introducing beignet, a new neural field architecture!

beignet uses a multiresolution fourier frequency pyramid to achieve faster convergence and higher precision when solving PDEs and finding singularities.

Teaser: here is beignet at work fitting an image (super fast)!

@hollywoodscifi You can see with Peter David himself playing with this idea with the psychologically traumatised character of Commander Quintin Stone in the TNG novel "A Rock and a Hard Place". He explicitly compares Stone to Kirk.

@gregnacu I just added that to Mutable OS, too!

Take all street view imagery of san francisco and turn it into a semantic 3d model of the city and you get this.

This open-source tool generates normal maps for pixel art sprites

It works with both single sprites and animated sprite sheets, turning flat pixel art into assets that can react to dynamic lighting in-game.

You can run it:
> locally from the CLI
> directly in the browser with WASM

That makes it pretty easy to drop into an existing pixel art pipeline without depending on a hosted service.

Small tool, but genuinely useful if you want 2D sprites to have more depth without repainting everything by hand.
