ZCash is a VC / hedge fund backed centralised (bankster) coin that literally cripples itself to become compliant. It’s not a revenge against any of that, it’s a full on embrace of all of that.
Does ZCash embrace the cypherpunk manifesto by Eric Hughes? Consider some key quotes, but I encourage you to read it all:
“Since we desire privacy, we must ensure that each party to a
transaction have knowledge only of that which is directly necessary
for that transaction. Since any information can be spoken of, we
must ensure that we reveal as little as possible.”
Does that sound like ZCash, where transparent and publicly traceable transactions are not just possible, they are the default? Where technical terms like “Z-address” and “T-address” and “shielded pool” betray the majority of users into thinking they’re private because they cannot be expected to first gain a deep understanding of the system in order to use it?
“Therefore, privacy in an open society requires anonymous transaction
systems. Until now, cash has been the primary such system. An
anonymous transaction system is not a secret transaction system. An
anonymous system empowers individuals to reveal their identity when
desired and only when desired; this is the essence of privacy.”
Does that sound like ZCash? Perhaps if unshielded transactions didn’t exist, but they do. That is not selective reveal, that is forced reveal - a situation exacerbated by the fact that you MUST reveal in order to use an exchange, among other things. Not only is a lack of privacy the default, it is forced by counterparties that should NOT have the option to obligate you to reveal anything.
“Cypherpunks deplore regulations on cryptography, for encryption is
fundamentally a private act. The act of encryption, in fact, removes
information from the public realm. Even laws against cryptography
reach only so far as a nation's border and the arm of its violence.
Cryptography will ineluctably spread over the whole globe, and with
it the anonymous transactions systems that it makes possible.”
Does that sound like ZCash, desperate to be compliant with every rule and every exchange? Do cypherpunks invent new ways to compromise and accede to regulations positioned against their privacy enhancing technology?
