Talking about USCIS Pause here:
If people had been notified ahead of time, many of us could have planned our lives differently and made informed decisions about our futures.
Instead, a sudden and indefinite hold was imposed on legally filed applications
after applicants had already paid hundreds of dollars in filing fees and followed every required process!!
These are real people with careers,
families,
research projects,
and responsibilities…
A policy like this should at least consider the human impact instead of abruptly disrupting lives simply because people were born outside the United States, regardless of how much they contribute to this country.
@SecMullinDHS@USCISJoe@StephenM
NEW! Today we @immcouncil released our new framework for a credible and humane interior immigration enforcement system.
What does that look like? It starts with four basic principles:
- Compliance
- Safety
- Proportionality
- Accountability
The U.S. built the greatest universities in the world by attracting the best talent globally.
Now we’re watching international enrollment collapse while universities cut programs, freeze hiring, and struggle financially.
A 20% drop is massive. Some schools are reportedly seeing near-zero international intake in programs.
The irony is that Trump once talked about “stapling green cards to diplomas” with people like @Jason and @DavidSacks.
Instead, we’re creating uncertainty that pushes top students, researchers, and future founders elsewhere.
Countries competing with America are celebrating this.
Legal immigrants are losing their jobs and their legal status not because THEY did anything wrong, but because the GOVERNMENT refuses to adjudicate the applications they paid for and filed. It should be a massive scandal.
Congressman @BradSherman, you represent the largest Iranian-American community in the U.S. We’ve reached out multiple times about the immigration pause on Iranian researchers and scholars, but we have yet to hear from your office.
We urge you to support a bipartisan solution for these talented individuals who chose to contribute their skills to America and California. Many cannot safely return to Iran after speaking out against the regime. The current halt is also stalling vital research projects and costing taxpayers.
We need your leadership on this.
.@SecRubio on the Iranian people: "I don't know of any country in the world where there's a bigger difference between the people and the people who run the country."
Mr. @SecRubio acknowledged that the people of Iran are different from the regime and described them as phenomenal. That matters.
Many of these individuals came to the United States on #F1 and #J1 visas as students, researchers, and scientists, contributing to universities and innovation. A number have already had their #I-140 petitions approved by @USCIS, demonstrating extraordinary ability and national interest merit.
However, we noticed that they are now impacted by the USCIS pause policy, with applications not being processed since December 2025. This has left many in limbo, facing uncertainty, job loss, and the risk of being forced to return to unsafe conditions.
A small fraction of these phenomenal individuals need urgent attention. Addressing the hold on their NIW applications would align policy with stated values.
#ScientistsInLimbo
@gsiskind Ok, doctors and medical researchers are in trouble! The #USCISPuase should be lifted for them ASAP! However, they are not the only ones being hit by the illegal USCIS pause; the basic science researchers are also im trouble! You need to widen the narrative to All Iranian scholars
@gsiskind So people from 39 countries are treated as risky by default unless they are doctors? How does that make sense? Nationality should not be the deciding factor.

So if you go to https://t.co/e8wyX15Bhk you will see the memo regarding the USCIS benefits pause. It says last updated 3/30. Well, guess what? It changed sometime after 4/27 and I'm guessing it was probably today given the horribly shameful news that researchers who were working on the pancreatic cancer AI diagnosis breakthrough have been caught up in the illegal USCIS benefits pause. The second screenshot below is what the paragraph with a new physician exception looked like two days ago.
Dreamers are our nurses, police officers, and soldiers. They follow the law, pay taxes, and have built their lives in this country.
I spoke with NOTUS’ @LlanosJackie about how it’s unacceptable that @USCIS fails to renew DACA applications on time and now recipients are subject to deportation.
We need immediate answers @SecMullinDHS.

@DrNeilStone Dear Neil, We appreciate your support. A large group of Iranian scholars is now under a blanket pause on USCIS applications. We are all LEGAL, and we are not against any vetting procedure. Please speak about us. Your voice will be heard #LiftTheHold#USCISPause
