Vote if you want. But it's false and a denial of Kenyan history to claim that it is the ritual of casting a ballot every 5 years that determines the future. That would just mortgage the future to politicians. It is participation in the years between elections that really matters.

Or we just don't vote. The legitimacy of the state and the political class relies on photos of us queuing at the polling stations, and proudly showing the ink on our fingers, followed by controlling the results through killing people. What if we don't show up in the first place?

Being killed after the polls has become an integral part of the voting. So let's not vote. If there are empty polling stations during the day, the state and the political class will have to cook up some other story other than winners and losers. We need to stop showing up for state functions, from voting to rallies. It's our naive participation in these rituals that is giving the state permission to kill us.

This is one of those #GenZMatters

Seven young people have been held at Lang’ata Women’s Prison and Nairobi Remand since July 8th, 2025 (over three months now) simply because they cannot afford Ksh 100,000 bail.

Despite multiple bail review applications, Magistrate Stephanie Bett has consistently refused to reduce bail, even though terrorism-accused persons have been granted bail of Ksh 50,000 or less.

These youth are not terrorists.
They are simply poor and being punished for it.

Now, the Magistrate has set the matter for hearing on 27th October; without a single pre-trial or adequate preparation. All that’s been done so far is plea taking and mentions on bail.

Meanwhile, 47 others remain in custody connected to these GenZ arrests:

•1 in Makindu
•46 in Kirinyaga

We call for court solidarity.
Stand with these young Kenyans as they face a system that criminalizes poverty.
