PARADE REHEARSALS INTENSIFY AHEAD OF THE PASSING-OUT PARADE
Today, the Deputy Commandant General, Paramilitary Training and National Service, Evans T. Yaite, reviewed the ongoing recruits’ parade rehearsals at the NYS Paramilitary Academy, Gilgil, as preparations for the upcoming Passing-Out Parade intensify.
The DCG. was accompanied by the Director, Paramilitary Academy, SACG. Loice C. Koech, MBS, the Regional Commander, Rift Valley Region, SACG. Gilbert Maina, OGW, and other senior officers from the Academy.
The DCG. urged the recruits to uphold the core values of the Service, emphasising that excellence is achieved through commitment, discipline, dedication and continuous practice.

The Commandant General, James K. Tembur, MBS today, officiated the commencement of NYS Cadets and Privates training at NYS Camp Naivasha.
During his address, he encouraged the trainees to quickly adapt the Service culture founded on 𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿, 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 since the road ahead would be highly demanding.
He urged the trainees to embrace their responsibility to serve the nation with dedication and uphold the Constitution of Kenya including the National values and principles of governance, values and principles of public service, and the NYS core values.
The Commandant General further reminded the trainees of the importance of guarding the reputation of the Service and challenged them to build a professional reputation founded on integrity, reliability, discipline and commitment to service.
Accompanying the Commandant General were; the Deputy Commandant General, Evans Yaite; Rift Valley-Regional Commander, SACG. Gilbert Maina, OGW, Chief of Personnel, ACG. The National Youth Service in partnership with Green Wheels and Uber East Africa, has successfully concluded a two-week E-Mobility Driver Training Programme for NYS servicemen and servicewomen scheduled to discharge from active service this year.
The official closing ceremony was presided over by the Deputy Commandant General, Operations and Logistics, Nicholas J. Makokha, HSC, at NYS Camp MTB in Nairobi.
The training marks a significant milestone, with the first pioneer cohort of 339 servicemen and servicewomen fully trained and certified on e-mobility-related skills, equipping them with practical knowledge and competencies to pursue opportunities in the rapidly growing economy.
The DCG congratulated the graduates for successfully completing the programme and encouraged them to remain focused, disciplined and committed, just as they have always demonstrated during their training. He urged them to use the skills and knowledge acquired to build sustainable livelihoods, embrace opportunities and work towards achieving financial independence as they exit the Service.

The Deputy Commandant General, Nicholas J. Makokha, today presided over the official opening of a Retreat on the Review of the National Youth Service Disciplinary Regulations 2025, held at the NYS Camp Naivasha.
The retreat has brought together senior officers, NYS Council members and key stakeholders to undertake a comprehensive review of the disciplinary framework, with the aim of aligning it with existing legal provisions and emerging governance standards. This process reaffirms the Service’s commitment to operating strictly within the law while enhancing efficiency, accountability, and professionalism.
In his address, the Deputy Commandant General underscored the critical role of discipline in the Service, noting that NYS is a disciplined and uniformed institution whose effectiveness depends on strict adherence to rules, regulations, and core values.
The review is expected to strengthen the regulatory framework and further entrench a culture of integrity, order, and discipline across all NYS formations.

He made the remarks while presiding over the official opening of a week-long Council training programme in Naivasha, attended by the Commandant General National Youth Service, James K. Tembur, MBS, who reiterated the Service’s, focus on realizing its strategic vision.
The training programme is being facilitated by officials from the Kenya School of Government, led by Mr. Samuel Angote, and is aimed at enhancing leadership capacity, strengthening governance frameworks, and improving overall institutional effectiveness.
Lt.Gen. (Rtd.) Mulata further underscored the importance of flexibility and adaptability among Council members, noting that these qualities are essential in addressing emerging challenges and ensuring responsive, results-driven leadership within the Service.

Today marked a major milestone for the National Youth Service following the official ground-breaking ceremony for the proposed construction of 120 staff housing units at the NYS Paramilitary Academy in Gilgil.
The ceremony was presided over by the Deputy Commandant General, Mr. Evans Yaite, who represented the Commandant General. In his remarks, the DCG noted that the project is a dream come true for the National Youth Service. He underscored that this mega project reflects the Government’s commitment to improving the welfare of NYS staff and transforming the Service.
The staff houses form part of ongoing infrastructure development at the Academy, complementing the proposed construction of Recruits’ Barracks, which when completed will accommodate over 30,000 recruits. These developments will significantly enhance operational efficiency and fundamentally change the face of the Academy.
Also present at the ceremony were Mr. Richard Tuta, MBS, HSC, Regional Lead – Rift Valley Region, State Department for Housing and Urban Development; SACG Loice Koech, MBS, Director, NYS Paramilitary Academy; ACG George Kamau, Deputy Director; ACG Philip Koech, Head of Building, NYS Headquarters, alongside other senior government officials.
This landmark project reaffirms the Government’s dedication to strengthening NYS infrastructure and capacity in line with its mandate of service to the nation.

The National Youth Service (NYS) delegation participating in the Youth Exchange Programme in India, today had the honour of witnessing the Republic Day Parade at Kartavya Path, presided over by the President of India and attended by the Prime Minister and other senior dignitaries.
Over the past one week, the delegation has actively taken part in the Republic Day Campaign, engaging with youth representatives from over 21 friendly foreign nations. These interactions have provided valuable insights into youth programmes, leadership development initiatives, and the operations of similar youth organizations across the globe.
The knowledge, experiences, and best practices gained through this international engagement will be instrumental in strengthening youth empowerment initiatives back home in Kenya, while fostering international friendship, cultural exchange, and shared values among nations.

The National Youth Service officers will celebrate this Christmas season in high spirits following the decision of the National Youth Service Council, chaired by Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Adan Mulata, MGH, CBS, OGW, 'ndc'(K), 'psc'(UK) to promote officers in accordance with the laid-down regulations and established protocols.
Key among them is, Mr. Evans Tebatukei Yaite, who has been promoted to the rank of Deputy Commandant General, a strategic position in Service. Until his promotion, Mr. Evans Tebatukei Yaite served as the RC-Coast Region and the CO-NYSTC Mtongwe.
Having joined the Service as a junior officer, he has steadily risen through the ranks to attain the second highest office within the Service. His elevation is a testament to a distinguished career marked by dedication, discipline, and exemplary service.
