So Osama was a traitor for hosting Ruto but your favorites are clean as they meet Matiang’i, Wamalwa, Chesang’ and DP Rigathi? The hypocrites who cancelled Kasmuel, Morara and Osama have become exactly what they used to criticize. Let’s create an open democracy with political tolerance.
I hear you, Lynn.
But Somalis, with all their wisdom, choose cash for a reason.
Others, with all their wisdom, choose M-Pesa for a reason.
There is no need to sensationalize or criticize the Eastleigh community over that.
People are free to accept the means of payment that is most convenient for their businesses.
• Some businesses prefer cash only.
• Others prefer M-Pesa only.
• Others accept both.
Cash is the only legal tender in Kenya. Digital money derive its value and legitimacy from cash.
Accepting cash is not illegal. Neither is preferring M-Pesa.
Different people have different money preferences.
KRA has had legal mechanisms and tools for taxing cash businesses since 1995. Long before M-Pesa even existed.
M-Pesa came the other day. It found KRA right here collecting taxes.
KRA should use those same mechanisms to tax businesses that choose to transact using Kenya's only legal tender.
Let us all, including KRA, support our only legal tender.
Why I fully support Shiko…..
Eastleigh isn’t a market, it’s a parallel economy running on cash, counterfeit dreams & zero KRA etr receipts.
Buy anything & they send you to their MPesa ‘agent’, one quick call, goods released, trail erased.
Multi-billion industry, zero transparency.
But try importing your own competing goods through the Mombasa or eldoret port like a real Kenyan?
DCI raids you faster than Al-Shabaab claims responsibility.
The Government is comfortable with Somali middlemen dodging taxes & flooding us with fakes, but heaven forbid a local like Shiko disrupts the cartel….
Being a Sunday I doubt we’re ready for this conversation? Time to audit the ‘highway’ to tax evasion. 🔥
Is paying for goods with cash suddenly a problem unique to Eastleigh?
Cash remains legal tender in Kenya, with the majority of businesses nationwide continuing to transact in cash as a standard and lawful practice. Counterfeiting is a national economic challenge, not confined to any single commercial area.
Where tax obligations remain unmet, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) holds the mandate to enforce compliance consistently, transparently, and without selective application. Kenyan enterprises across all sectors deserve equitable treatment and a genuine level playing field.
Prioritise the rule of law. Strengthen institutions. Foster fair competition for every business.
It was good that the entire judgment was read word for word and broadcasted live for ten hours to the entire Kenyan public. How else would you have understood the problems we keep pointing out daily about incompetence, misconduct and misbehavior by a Judges?
I have seen a section of Kenyans calling on parliament to impeach the president. Do you think the National Assembly would have the balls for that?
Let’s make a wild assumption they would. Have you actually bothered to inform yourselves on the process?
Kenyans deserve justice that is transparent, reasoned, and accountable.
Today, I have petitioned the Judicial Service Commission @jsckenya to investigate three Court of Appeal judges who suspended High Court orders blocking the Kenya-US Health Cooperation Framework, but withheld their reasons for doing so until October 2026.
My concern is not that they ruled against me. It is that an immediately enforceable decision was issued without reasons, effectively frustrating a timely appeal to the @THE_SCOK and denying Kenyans meaningful access to justice.
Judicial independence must be protected. But independence and accountability must go hand in hand. No institution is above the Constitution.
