Our Vision, Mission, and Core Values
The Lagos State Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA) is an initiative of the Lagos State Government established in 2007 to have as its primary responsibility the management and coordination of motor vehicle documentation in Lagos State.
This is not about creating another driverās license.
It is about building a better driverās licensing system in partnership with the FRSC, one that delivers faster processing, stronger identity verification, better driver records, and improved road safety.
There is still one Nigerian driverās license, valid across the country. Existing valid licenses remain valid, and the enhanced license will be recognized anywhere in Nigeria.
This initiative is not about duplication or revenue generation. It is about ensuring that only properly trained, properly identified, and properly licensed drivers are on our roads.
Safer drivers. Safer roads. Better service. One national standard.
Not exactly.
The new system is not a separate Lagos-only driverās licence. It is the Enhanced Driverās Licence Management System (EDLMS) being implemented jointly by the Lagos State Government @followlasg and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). Lagos is simply one of the first states to adopt it.
Drivers will not be required to choose between a āFederalā licence and a āLagosā licence. Licensing remains unified nationwide, and a valid Nigerian driverās licence is recognized across all states. Existing valid licences also remain valid until they expire.
For commercial drivers including NURTW, RTEAN, Uber, Bolt, company drivers, dispatch riders, and truck drivers, the requirement is simply to possess a valid Nigerian driverās licence issued under the unified national system. The EDLMS strengthens verification, reduces fraud, improves processing time, and enhances enforcement; it does not create a separate Lagos licence.
Thank you.
āTobi.

RE: LAGOS STATE OFFICE OF DEPUTY GOVERNOR TO SPEND 4.2 BILLION NAIRA ON OFFICE FURNITURE, 30 MICROPHONES IN Y2026
Ā
The attention of the Lagos State Government has been drawn to reports alleging that ā¦4.2 billion was proposed in the 2026 budget for the purchase of office furniture and microphones for the Office of the Deputy Governor.
2. This claim is inaccurate and results from a clear misinterpretation of the approved capital provisions.Ā
The following points are stated for clarity:
* The total capital allocation for the Office of the Deputy Governor for Y2026 is ā¦4,247,816,006.
* ā This figure has been incorrectly represented as an allocation solely for the purchase of office furniture and microphones.
* Out of the total capital expenditure of the office, the sum of ā¦4,077,816,006 is earmarked forĀ the reconstruction of the Round House complex (This is a 6-story building facility that housesĀ over 50 offices), including structural upgrades, retrofitting works, and the provision of alternative energy infrastructure for the building, amongst others.
* The balance in the sum of N170,000,000 of the budgeted capital allocated covers purchase of office equipment, office furniture & fittings and other capital items.
* Screenshots of the relevant budget master sheet are attached for transparency and public review.
3 The Government reiterates that budgetary provisions are guided by due process, fiscal discipline, and established accounting standards. Stakeholders and media organizations are encouraged to seek clarification through appropriate channels to ensure accurate reporting.
4. Lagos State Government remains committed to prudent management of public resources and regrets any misunderstanding arising from the classification.
Ā
5. Thank you.

The SSA-T āTransport Missionā continued yesterday as the Senior Special Assistant on Transport Education & Innovation, Tobi Idowu, met with the Permanent Secretary of the Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA), Mr. Rasheed Muri-Okunola, and his team to commend their leadership and explore deeper collaboration.
Discussions centered on strengthening compliance, tackling misuse of dealer plates, addressing faded/defaced number plates, and promoting full compliance with vehicle documentation. The SSA emphasized that āwith more compliance, there will be less enforcement,ā stressing the need for transport education that enlightens and sensitizes Lagosians.
The PS highlighted ongoing reforms to speed up and make driverās license issuance more user-friendly while also unveiling plans to fully digitalize MVAA operations. He further noted that citizens can process a wide range of services at any of MVAAās over 140 stations across Lagos at the governmentās flat rate and should be discouraged from patronizing touts who inflate costs, delay processes, and provide outdated information.
Together, the SSA and MVAA are set to intensify sensitization and create public awareness of key MVAA services such as Vehicle license, Hackney permits, Riderās cards, and more ā all in line with Mr. Governorās THEMES+ Agenda for a transparent and technology-driven transport ecosystem.
