Another year, another chapter for @CA_HCAI in its continuing mission to support informed decisions in Californiaโs healthcare system.

Today California celebrates 175 years of statehood!
In celebrating this milestone, we simultaneously recognize Californiaโs growth and the work that still needs to be done to make health care equitable and accessible for all Californians. HCAI remains committed to that mission.
With gratitude and appreciation, proud to have accepted this award on behalf of the talented team of nearly two dozen civil servants who research, design, and develop, based on user feedback, all of the over 70 online interactive reports found on the HCAI website: https://t.co/Z8TP9YQRON
Their work turns data into information into understanding -- and is critical to supporting informed decisions across a wide variety of topics in healthcare policy and practice. Consider joining this illustrious group of dedicated public professionals: https://t.co/QaWrq4psdo
Thankful to the resolute community of state health data organizations and @NAHDO for their guidance and leadership over many years. --In partnership!
HCAIโs Healthcare Analytics Branch received @NAHDOnewsโ distinguished Innovation in Data and Dissemination Award! HCAI continues to be a leader in secure health data collection and transparency. Here is some of the work that earned them this award: https://t.co/uZsAmgiYbS
Had the opportunity to staff the second-annual Women In Tech networking event hosted by JPMorgan Chase and @italentcorp's @GLAMReadyToLead ๐๐ช Privileged to facilitate a discussion about what women need in 2025 to be successful in tech. The result? Two examples of meaningful initiatives led by innovative leaders helping to move the needle ๐
1๏ธโฃ Pamela Banerjee and @WomenBackToWork help companies that value diversity and inclusion hire career-ready returners into tech and professional roles.
2๏ธโฃ Nikki Parsons and @SAfG_BayArea is working to change the face of science by providing afterschool STEM programs for girls in the East Bay.

The ๐ฑ๐๐ต public data report from the Healthcare Payments Database, California's All-Payer Claims Database, and the ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ on healthcare costs.
Check out the range consumers pay when dealing with chronic conditions like asthma, anxiety, and diabetes -- and the compounding financial burden for those suffering from multiple conditions.
You'll see the default view excludes Medi-Cal, so not to skew the cost figures because there is no out-of-pocket for Medi-Cal enrolees. You can filter Medi-Cal in, or just look at Medi-Cal by itself, to see the enrollment and claim count figures.
Many partners and stakeholders contributed to the development of this report -- with gratitude to them and our cherished team of civil servants. Thank you!
Do you know which counties in California had the lowest median medical out-of-pocket costs? What about those with the highest?
We just released a powerful data visualization to help Californians analyze out-of-pocket medical care in 2022. Check it out: https://t.co/c6k3kQXYCh
Just published the ๐๐ค๐ช๐ง๐ฉ๐ public analytic report from the Healthcare Payments Database, California's All-Payer Claims Database, with data from 2018 to 2023.
Playing a bit of catch up now, but going forward all these HPD reports will have about a one-year data lag.
Our goal is for data to be actionable, and timely, to support the most informed decisions. Thank you to the dedicated team of civil servants and partners for your support!
We are excited to announce the release of the Healthcare Payments Data (HPD) Services Report.
This report provides data visualizations that allow users to explore the most common types of healthcare services provided to Californians each year.

Three #healthdata highlights from 2024๐...
3๏ธโฃ Published ๐ต๐ผ๐๐ฝ๐ถ๐๐ฎ๐น ๐ฒ๐พ๐๐ถ๐๐ ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐๐ฎ ๐๐ผ๐ผ๐น๐ธ๐ถ๐ that providers can use to participate in HCAIโs Hospital Equity Measures Program: https://t.co/ER9R2lzELI
With gratitude to our team of civil servants, proud to publish the third data report from the Healthcare Payments Database, Californiaโs APCD, presenting prescription drug spending, utilization, and out-of-pocket costs.
We learned A LOT about the pharmacy data, different ways to measure cost, and the prescription drug market as a whole -- we're actively soliciting feedback for what to do next: https://t.co/8mpifIb9vX
As always, the underlying, de-identified information is open data available in API-enabled, machine-readable formats.
Still just, just getting started -- so much more to come.
Our latest Healthcare Payments Data visualizations let you see which are the top 25 costliest drugs, the top 25 most frequently prescribed drugs, and the top 25 drugs with the highest out-of-pocket costs in the commercial market.

This year I was fortunate to participate in a Women in Tech networking event -- thank you @cecilplummer for the invitation!
My advice to men and other allies:
1โฃ Listen. Actively.
2โฃ Be deliberate about diversifying your own networks
3โฃ Mentor generously and to disrupt the status quo

Pleased to join fellow partners to discuss the role of data analytics and digital ethics for health equity at the @industrystudies#ISASacramento conference. Thank you for the invitation, @SadafAshtari -- great dialogue!
Enjoyed sharing whatever lessons learned I could from my own experiences in the field with @SadafAshtari's @sacstate MBA class on integrated IT in health care. Watch out healthcare data and technology leaders โ this crack group of students is coming and hungry to make an impact!
Join us in advancing interoperable, opensource healthcare data standards--built on existing efforts--that minimize administrative burden and maximize analytical use!
Read a new blog post on the @CA_HCAIโs Expanded Framework to capture non-claims health spending to better track and understand where health care dollars are going and how well they are meeting delivery goals. https://t.co/W3Kuk9RsSd
With appreciation to @NAHDOnews for their leadership over many years in advancing credible, interoperable, opensource health data specifications and standards. You make it possible for important health data and research to support informed decisions across the nation. Thank you!
On March 1, HCAI submitted a report to the California Legislature on the Healthcare Payments Data ProgramโCaliforniaโs All-Payer Claims Databaseโfocusing on several areas including the completeness and quality of data included in the database. Report link: https://t.co/FE4fYpH3Sw
All of the underlying, de-identified information is #opendata available in API-enabled, machine-readable formats.
Still just getting started -- so much more to come.
With gratitude to our team of civil servants, proud to publish the second report from the Healthcare Payments Database, presenting select #healthcare measures -- such as asthma and diabetes prevalence -- for analysis by geography, over time, and compared to statewide averages.
EXCITING NEWS! We have released 4 data visualizations YOU can use to explore the care and characteristics of Californians within the Healthcare Payments Database. Explore 3 categories: Health conditions, Utilization, Demographics. https://t.co/dSyIdxJBdZ
