we’re all complicit in the broken economics of the music industry, and the erosion of music culture, by allowing the art to be so freely and cheaply available
Some of your favs are like ‘I DEFY THE RULES, BREAK BOUNDARIES, FIGHT AGAINST THE SYSTEM’
Me: Can you play a small club?
‘Let me ask my manager to ask my agent to see what my contracts allow me to do for the next 18 months in the city I live in.’
Jack is literally one of the best DJ’s of all time btw. He changed the way so many people played / heard electronic music. That legacy will last for decades bro ❤️
Also when people ask for advice about having a music career I tell them get a job. They look at me confused. Listen your first priority when it comes to art is to make great art that you love, you aren’t supposed to think of the money first. Having a job allows you to do that.
If you accept a record deal with a million dollar advance—from any label—there are several important factors to be aware of. Please read this before sliding into Gucci’s DMs:
need to stop seeing ‘classically trained’ on press releases like it makes a difference to anything . your favourite artist didn’t take violin lessons at 3 years old and that’s ok
@duolingo hi - duolingo has stopped recognising my speech . i can see the audio is registering, but it doesn’t recognise the words . it’s worked fine for 2+ years until now . is there a fix ?
the least you can do if u have the privilege of working in the music industry is be a genuine fan
buy tickets, buy records, support your favourite artists even if you’re not ~in business~ with them
@eli1ah@PjSomervelle you know i think it’s useful for artists to see alternative pathways ‘work’ even if it’s rare. maybe inspires more freedom of ideas, trying different ways etc
