STOP SUBSIDISING FOREIGN CORPORATIONS TO GENERATE RENEWABLE ENERGY

It’s been annouced that the Federal Government will give Rio Tinto $2.4 bil to save Tamago smelter.

Add that to $2 billion for Boyne smelter, $2.4 billion for Whyalla smelter & $240 million to other smelter operators.

The owners of these smelters are predominantly foreign owned.

Manufacturing is vital to our success as a nation but not if it has to rely on billions of dollars of subsidies from taxpayers in order to prop up predominantly foreign owned renewable energy corporations.

The best way to make manufacturing profitable in Australia is to build base load power stations that will provide cheap reliable energy 24 hours a day without taxpayer handouts.

That will lower energy costs for all Australians and Australian businesses not just foreign corporations.

Payroll tax also needs to be abolished.

People First is the only party that has a policy to fund the construction of wealth generating Infrastructure through the creation of an Infrastructure Bank.

We will also fund the abolition of payroll tax by removing the CGT exemption on foreigners who own shares and charge them stamp duty.

The lies and subsidy being pushed by Chris Bowen and the Labor party in regard to renewable energy has to stop.

“A bailout of the country's largest aluminium smelter will cost taxpayers $2.5 billion dollars, with the New South Wales and federal governments expected to split the bill down the middle. 

Late last year mining giant Rio Tinto warned the Tomago Aluminium plant could be forced to close when its energy supply contract ran out in 2028, due to the rising cost of renewable and coal-fired power.

The joint investment will deliver a long-term renewable energy solution for the Tomago Aluminium smelter.”
