@HuwTindall The corporate cynic in me says it’s because the other teams actually sell their corporate boxes, and the Force don’t. Still reckon it’s awesome though!
@pTah_XV Go the home school kid! Have to say, the geographic spread on some of their clubs v schools is “interesting” (Endeavour High/Wahroonga for example - got to be a commute of nearly 2 hours!!!)
The moment I knew he’d go all the way was actually a few years later, I had moved to Melbourne and went to an old Australian Rugby Shield game at Ashwood Harlequins on a cold winters night - and Gus came down from Sydney to ref it - no glamour, no fanfare.
Congratulations to Emirates World Rugby Match Official Angus Gardner who today becomes the first Australian to referee 50 tests.
Ahead of the @SixNationsRugby match between @IrishRugby & @FranceRugby Angus shares his thoughts on what the milestone means, those who have helped him along the way, and the journey to @rugbyworldcup 2027 within a talented team of match officials.
@RugbyAU
@SuperRugby Can’t decide between Matt Dowling/Dom Byrne or Francis Cullimore/Milton Thaiday - although I’d love to squeeze Marc Stcherbina in there as well!
@Hugh_96 Agree, but the origins of the All-Australian team come from the days of the National Carnival, where the States would play one another in a tournament and they would pick a merit “All Australian” team at the end. When the VFL became the AFL they took over the concept.
@RugbyReg /2 I cheekily suggested it depended on who she went for in the Bledisloe Cup, quick as a flash she replied “well considering my husband was a Wallaby, I better go the Aussie one then” 😂
@RugbyReg Still remember when he & his sister used to come into my Bottleshop in Greenslopes with their Mum - had no idea who they were until one day mum asked me about the difference between a Shaw & Smith or Oyster Bay Sauv Blanc /1
Well done Gus!
We’re the same age, and came through the ranks at NSW at the same time - even 20 years ago when he had Div 4 1st Grade Subbies and I had 3rd grade (so I got the “privilege” of running touch for 1sts) you could tell he had the potential to go on with it.
