@C_NyaKundiH I once worked here..weee shift inaanza 6:30 am to 9 pm or 9 am to 11pm ....na hiyo ya kutolewa line attendant unapelekwa cashier ama bakery it's true na salary inafika 15k or 14k

Eastmatt Supermarket Workers Decry Harsh Working Conditions

Employees at Eastmatt Supermarket have raised concerns over harsh working conditions, long working hours, and alleged exploitation.

A worker, speaking to us anonymously, revealed that supermarket staff endure up to 16-hour shifts daily under intense pressure from management, with little to no support from human resources.

According to the worker, new employees are initially hired as shop assistants through agents under a meagre salary, only to be reassigned as cashiers or bakers without a salary review.

Complaints regarding excessive working hours are reportedly dismissed by the supermarket’s directors, who allegedly tell employees to quit if they cannot cope.

With the rising cost of living, many workers feel trapped in difficult conditions, fearing job loss if they speak out.

They are now calling for intervention to address the alleged mistreatment and ensure better labour conditions at the retail chain.

"I work at Eastmatt Supermarket. I've been here for like 5 years now. The type of slavery going on, we are wasting our time. They employ and use you badly. You are taken by an agent as a shop assistant, who is paid 15k. Then you become a cashier or baker. Remember, the salary is that of a line attendant. Before you know it, it's too late. Working hours are 16 good hours. I repeat, 16 GOOD HOURS! The directors know. They normally say if you can't handle those hours, then just leave. With this economy now, it's hard for some, it becomes tricky. Thus, you suffer standing daily for 16 hours, plus torture from managers who follow direct orders from the directors. No one stands with us, even the HR. Bro, we are going through hell. We don't know who will ever help us. Please."
