On this day 30 years ago (1996): the Second Severn Crossing opened. It replaced the existing Severn Bridge (pictured), which was congested and in need of repairs.
On this day 25 years ago (2001): then-Prime Minister Tony Blair made a stop at Cobham services (not that one) while on the campaign trail. https://t.co/6tAVdWtcyo
On this day 50 years ago (1976): the Liverpool Inner Motorway project was cancelled. £8 million had been spent on the project which was expected to cost £60 million to build. https://t.co/rSZBXAZRVA
You just won a 2-week, all-expenses-paid vacation in the UK and/or Ireland. But there’s a catch: you have to stay within one region the whole time. What are you picking?
On this day 45 years ago (1981): a fire broke out at Heston services, destroying the westbound building. It allowed the replacement of what had become a decrepit building. https://t.co/Nv6c6GUpel
On this day 40 years ago (1986): the UK's first ramp metering trial was activated at M6 J10. Initially deemed to be a success and soon rolled out across the West Midlands, the UK has had a love-hate relationship with these signals, which depend on drivers stopping at red lights.

Google Search as you know it is over.
The familiar blue links we’ve seen for 25 years are getting pushed out in favor of an “intelligent search box,” which Google is putting front and center as part of its all-in push for AI-powered experiences. The box will expand to accommodate for longer queries, and suggestions will be much more extensive versions of the autocomplete we’ve all seen in the search bar.
On top of all that, “information agents” are planned to release this summer, allowing you to track changes made to sites, whether it’s product prices or news updates, and alert you without any prompting.

A third of all petrol stations registered on the government’s Fuel Finder database as motorway sites are not at Motorway Service Areas, with some being 50 or 100 miles away from the nearest motorway, Forecourt Trader can reveal. https://t.co/ohpQeOoii8
Don't bother sending me that article called "How UK Motorway Services Are Becoming Tourist Destinations" which is appearing in multiple outlets. This is the header image they are using. It's pure slop.
