Photos like this always make me pause and reflect. I’m sure it’s the same for many of you.
I try to imagine Memorial Day for this family vs. my family and many other families across America.
Our family’s Memorial Day will involve kids playing baseball in the yard, maybe a bike ride, and a BBQ—hopefully, some relaxation and joy.
But to that, Mom, Memorial Day brings pain and sorrow.
If I had a chance to say something to that Mom & to that little baby, it would be something like...” thank you. Thank you for everything that you’ve given up for this country.” And possibly a big hug.
John F. Kennedy said it best: “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter the words but to live by them.”
To me, appreciation and remembrance for all those who have given their lives for our country and the families who have lost loved ones are to live our lives rooted in loving each other in our actions and words.
So every day (not just Holidays)...let’s be kind. And give a lot of big hugs to your loved ones.
Everyday.
