#dandarostreets Two Kwekwe men, Dumisani Mutwazi (33) and Tanaka Tayero (27), have been sentenced to 36 months in prison each after hacking into Econet Wireless Zimbabwe’s computer system and obtaining airtime bundles worth US$12,436.52.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the duo accessed the system between June 25 and July 10, 2025, obtained airtime access codes and sold the bundles for cash. Their scheme was exposed after an Econet fraud specialist detected suspicious transactions involving Yomix and EcoCash.

Ten months of each sentence were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour, while another 18 months were suspended on condition that each performs 630 hours of community service. Econet suffered a loss of US$12,436.52, with nothing recovered.
