Teachers cannot reliably detect AI but might think they can. But can't prove it, even with help of software. Students can't disprove it. And so, trust is broken.

When institutions suspect a student has inappropriately used AI, the fact that they won't be able to prove it is less of a worry IMO than the fact that the student won't be able to prove they didn't. Suspicion and mistrust could be v damaging.
