Incase anyone is interested:
Right now Ottawa's 2019 per capita ridership is similar to the OTC "bus era" per capita ridership, when cars were seen as the way of future transportation following WWII.
We need transit investment, NOW!!!
@ottawaisms Most modern new buses in Southern Ontario have the white signs, too. Particularly around the Hamilton area.
I find they actually make our system look less dated than it feels.
@milesintransit1 Fun fact: The unique design of the farm properties (long but skinny) was because back in the "New France" days, property taxes were based on how much waterfront land they had.
Hence, the minimum waterfront land.
Land hasn't really been changed much since that time.
@Alex_S_Cullen@CharlesJWhite2 Yup, which IMO is a huge mistake to proceed with 2.0 and no improved infrastructure to access it.
But what do I know? I only live a 5 minute walk from Lansdowne.
@Alex_S_Cullen@CharlesJWhite2 Let's not forget that the new official plan calls for extreme density along the Bank Street corridor. I feel without adequate transportation infrastructure along there to support the growth, we won't be able to accommodate such density in the long term.
Plus Lansdowne.
@RiverWardRiley I do recall being told that the standard used to be to repaint every line in this city twice a year, which I believe before the calming measures were put in place, was achieved.
Now, I don't think lines get painted twice a year.
@RiverWardRiley I believe the issue is that crews spend too much time installing/removing the temporary traffic calming measures in the spring and fall.
As while I generally support those measures, road markings being painted was NEVER an issue before then.
@BiniIrl@RM_Transit@RM_Transit You don't even have to be present! We allow Delegates to join via Zoom.
You can sign up an hour prior to the start of the meeting. (Meeting is at 9:30 on Monday).
@YOW_Weather@ShawnMenard1 I counter your argument with the buses are fine, it's the kids unpredictable behavior around buses that makes it hazardous.
School buses still do public charters on snow days, and they handle perfectly fine in the snow. But I don't trust kids to be safe around the bus.
