Yes, the BBC has to live within its means but if being a public service broadcaster is central to its mission The World Tonight is not the programme to cut. It takes a world view & intelligently & has been a nightly briefing for people like me since I discovered it at university.
A break from our usual programming to say that I've listened to The World Tonight on Radio 4 for years so for me the BBC deciding to cut it is a travesty.
Very sad to hear The World Tonight is being axed by the BBC. Newshour is a great programme but it isn’t a substitute.
Radio 4 and its audience won’t have a domestic facing outlet after 1800.
I hope audiences now understand the challenges facing the BBC.
