I don’t even like debating stuff like this. Science and art both have their strong points; one doesn’t need to diminish the other to prove its value.
At this point, I’m tired of arguing about Science vs Art. 😂
Science is difficult. Art is difficult. Mathematics can humble you. So can anatomy, perspective, composition, colour theory.
Different disciplines demand different forms of intelligence, discipline, creativity and problem-solving. Being exceptionally good at one doesn't make the other inferior.
If you think Science is harder, congratulations.
If someone thinks Art is harder, congratulations to them too.

Nobody is disrespecting Science. But this is exactly where the argument keeps going off track.
Nobody said Science is one simple subject or that Mathematics is universally easy. Engineering Maths, Pure Maths, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry, etc. can absolutely humble you.
But listing every branch of Science and Mathematics doesn't suddenly prove that Art is easy...
Art has its own depth, technical requirements and disciplines that can humble someone just as badly. You can enter an Art studio thinking “na drawing” and come out questioning every decision that led you there.....
Science can be brutally difficult. So can Art.
The difficulty just manifests differently.

As you're entering your first year, they're telling you there's pure and applied sciences.
Before you pick your poison, you need to be aware of their subdivisions.
Physical sciences, life sciences, earth sciences, health sciences, computing sciences, engineering fields, formal sciences - and to bind them finely, you need to understand social sciences.
You know what - there's mathematics in all of these divisions. Different kinds.
So when you say, Maths is easier to pass - what maths please? Engineering Maths?

I still never denied that. You can have the talent, but how many people can actually develop and implement it at a professional level?
I honestly don't understand why y'all keep comparing the 2D diagrams you mostly do on paper to an entire discipline built around concepts, techniques, observation, composition, anatomy, perspective and so on.
Any one of these can frustrate you throughout your 3 years in Art class, not to mention the other areas you have to master.
Just like he's about Organic Chemistry, I'm about drawing as a subject too. The fact that one is science and the other is art doesn't automatically make one person more intellectually equipped than the other.

“more difficult” isn't an objective measure you can simply apply across completely different disciplines. Difficulty depends on the skill set, the individual and what you're being asked to accomplish.
Have you ever spent hours on a life drawing, trying to get the exact proportions of the legs right, correcting it over and over, and still feeling like something is off? 😂 That frustration is part of the difficulty too.
You can say Organic Chemistry is more difficult for you than life drawing, just as a trained artist might find mastering anatomy, proportion, perspective, composition and visual storytelling extremely demanding.
Different kinds of difficulty don't automatically create a hierarchy.
I never said science students can’t draw. If anything, I’ve already acknowledged that they do a lot of technical drawing.
But drawing a precise diagram of a leaf, skeleton or machine component is not the same as studying drawing as an artistic discipline.
One is primarily communicating scientific information and the other involves studying form, anatomy, perspective, composition, light, gesture and visual expression....
Discovering a talent and studying a discipline are two different things.

Science may use drawing when it needs to represent something, but that doesn't mean the artistic discipline behind drawing is irrelevant.
I agree that drawing can absolutely be a talent, and engineering students definitely benefit from it. But that doesn’t mean the discipline of drawing has nothing to do with art or science.
Your natural ability to draw may have helped you in Engineering drawing, but Engineering drawing itself is a technical discipline with principles like projection, proportion, perspective and spatial visualization, stuff like that
Likewise, an artist can have natural talent, but Core Art goes beyond simply being able to draw. That’s the distinction I’m making. Talent can exist across disciplines, but the depth and purpose of how the skill is developed differs.
You’re missing the point.
He chose Organic Chemistry, and I chose drawing in Art class. The same way he’s well-versed in Organic Chemistry is the same way I’m well-versed in that.
In science class, most of the drawing you do is 2D diagrams developed out of necessity, you either learn it to survive the subject or you happen to have the talent for it, which I won’t deny.
But in Core Art, especially when it comes to life drawing, there’s a whole different level of study and concepts involved; anatomy, proportion, perspective, form, gesture, composition, light and shadow, etc.
So yes, a science student can be an incredible draughtsman. That doesn't mean the drawing curriculum in science class is comparable to what is taught and practiced in Core Art. Different disciplines, different objectives, different depths.
That’s why I keep saying both have their strong points.
I don’t deny that. Core art students do far more 3D drawings and detailed studies on sketchpads, while most science diagrams are primarily 2D and serve a different purpose.
That’s why I said both have their strong points. Science students draw diagrams all the time, and artists also rely on science more than people realize. It’s not really a competition, both disciplines overlap in ways people don’t always notice.
Drawing has everything to do with art.
It all starts from a DOT. Regardless of how you want to see it.

Same way it's not every one in science that can eclipse my 3 years in art class with only organic chemistry cos not every one of them is brilliant to do that....
And don't reduce drawing to you can see it and you draw it .... If you can imagine it can you put it down in drawing?
Just because I said drawing doesn't mean you should reduce art to just “drawing.”
Science and art have influenced each other for centuries. The tools, materials, techniques and technology that pushed art forward came from science, yes. But science also needs creativity and imagination to move forward.
Without art and design, a lot of scientific innovations would struggle to be translated into something people can actually see, understand and interact with.
Like I said, they both have their strong points. No need turning it into a competition.
