Take a look at this throwback photo of the iconic Biscayne Boulevard from over 50 years ago!
Known as the Gateway to Miami, Biscayne Boulevard is a part of U.S. 1 and was constructed in the 1920’s to accommodate the city’s rapid growth and development. Decades later, this corridor remains a vital part of Miami’s infrastructure while holding rich historical significance that tells the story of a booming city.

From July 13–18, Operation Southern Slow Down is underway across Florida and the Southeastern U.S., bringing together law enforcement and transportation agencies to help reduce speeding-related crashes and save lives through increased enforcement and public education.
Safer roads depend on driver responsibility. Slow down, respect the speed limit, and look out for others on the road. Every driver has a role to play.

📷 Progress you can see!
The new Shands Bridge is taking shape with 60-inch pile bents now in place - think of them as the sturdy “legs” that support the bridge over the river. Another exciting step forward as construction continues!

Big news for Bay County travelers!
Today, FDOT announced major progress milestones for the U.S. 98 widening project including the completion of the first segment from Mandy to Nautilus Street one full year ahead of schedule, as well as breaking ground on the third and final phase, which widens a 5.8-mile segment from Richard Jackson Boulevard to Hathaway Bridge.
This final phase has been advanced by several years as part of @GovRonDeSantis Moving Florida Infrastructure Initiative.
To keep up with the Panhandle’s tremendous growth, all three phases of this $170 million project will expand capacity in this heavily tourist traveled area by 50% for approximately 10 miles of U.S. 98 from Mandy Lane to the Hathaway Bridge.
These accelerated efforts will bring about a $329 million economic impact in the region and will improve traffic safety, increase roadway capacity, and enhance connectivity.

Opened in July of 1989, the Panhandle Pioneer Settlement is a forty-acre museum dedicated to showcasing traditions and ways of life during the Florida pioneer days. With eighteen historic buildings to walk through, this museum transports visitors right back to 19th century Florida. The M&B Railroad Depot Museum nearby honors Florida's shortest operating rail line, linking the county to broader economic growth. Visitors can ride wagons, churn butter, and explore steam-era history. These sites immerse guests in Florida's rural roots.

Happy 250th anniversary to the United States of America, the beautiful country we call home. This Independence Day, we celebrate the bold declaration our Founding Fathers made two and a half centuries ago, the countless sacrifices made to preserve and defend our freedoms, and the years of innovation and development that brought us to where we are today.
FDOT is proud to commemorate this important milestone as we reflect on the many ways transportation has contributed to the story of our nation. From connecting communities to powering our economy, transportation has carried our country from the very start and continues to fuel its future.
For nearly 250 years, Americans have come together every Independence Day to celebrate the freedom of our nation. Let’s keep that tradition strong by making safe choices behind the wheel during the holiday weekend to get everyone home safely.
No impaired driving. No excuses. Plan your ride home before the festivities begin.
Our Founding Fathers would have wanted you to slow down.
Drive safe this holiday weekend by obeying the posted speed limits and never getting behind the wheel under the influence of impairing substances.
The American Flag is a symbol of freedom, sacrifice, and the enduring spirit of this nation.
As we celebrate America’s 250th this weekend, FDOT is commemorating the occasion by installing new flagpoles, some over 100 ft. tall, at many locations around the state.
It’s a great reminder to celebrate our nation’s history no matter where your travels take you.
Your vehicle is only as safe as your tires.
Proper tread depth and tire pressure work in tandem to prevent blowouts and ensure you can brake quickly, especially when roads are wet.
Routine rotation, balance, and alignment, plus regular checks can help tires last longer.
Freedom is showing up across Florida.
Patriotic banners that highlight the hallmarks that make Florida great have been installed in key corridors throughout the state. These banners act as a visible reminder of America’s 250th anniversary and the contributions Florida has made to the republic throughout communities statewide.

Exciting day to see yet another state budget that showcases Florida’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and prioritizes transportation investments that ensures everyone who lives, works, and plays in our state can travel safely and efficiently.
FDOT is grateful for the Governor’s leadership and the continued support of the Legislature that enables us to deliver projects that relieve congestion, enhance safety, and strengthen Florida’s various modes of transportation. These investments will benefit Florida’s communities and support businesses in every corner of the state.
The Fiscal Year 2026-2027 Budget marks the fourth straight year Florida has reduced its budget. We have large reserves and a full rainy day fund—more than triple the size from when I took office. We’ve paid down historic debt instead of passing the burden to future generations.
The State of Florida has built a strong fiscal foundation because we manage taxpayers’ money responsibly. Florida’s per capita spending is one of the lowest in the nation. We have the fewest state employees per capita in the nation.
We’ve achieved high levels of fiscal responsibility while also reducing taxes and making historic investment in infrastructure, education and Everglades restoration. In short, it can be done!
Safe driving starts at home! Teens notice more than you think, especially behind the wheel.
Parents, talk with your teens about safe driving expectations and model safe habits so they are ready before they get behind the wheel!

Only one week left to go until America's 250th anniversary! As we continue our celebrations, we are reminded that Florida’s story runs deep.
The Freedom Forever Trail, located at the I-75 Welcome Center in Jennings, Florida, is where honor meets history. This path showcases meaningful destinations and events from across the state, offering a new way to experience Florida’s impact on our nation while honoring those who bravely answered the call to serve.

Built to connect a nation. Still delivering every day.
Today is National Interstate Day and to celebrate, FDOT is rolling out new signs on roadways and rest areas statewide along corridors that carry people, freight, and support Florida's economy.
As we lead up to the Eisenhower Interstate System's official 70th anniversary on June 29, we're recognizing the network that keeps Florida moving.
Every trip this summer should be a safe one!
Give yourself extra time, slow down, and stay alert for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists. The best summer memory is the one you make when you arrive safely.
