Considered “the most wonderful beach in the world,” as written in this 1933 postcard, Daytona Beach offered a 500-foot-wide, 33-mile-long stretch of sand.
Beachgoers can still enjoy the sand and sea in many areas today, or they may opt for a scenic drive along nearby S.R. A1A’s 338 miles of coastal highway.

On this day in 1942, a 38-million-year-old place of history opened to the public. Nestled near Marianna, Florida Caverns State Park is the only state park in Florida with publicly accessible air-filled limestone caves. Developed in the late 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) as part of the New Deal, the CCC carved trails, built visitor facilities, and preserved spectacular stalactites, stalagmites, and cave wildlife. It stands as a testament to New Deal conservation and rural revitalization.

Exactly 251 years ago today, the U.S. Army was officially established during the American Revolutionary War, over one year before the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Originally named the Continental Army, George Washington was appointed as it’s commander and lead numerous victories that would result in our nation’s founding.
As we continue to celebrate 250 years of American independence, we are reminded that none of this would be possible without the brave men and women who have fought for our country and our freedoms over that last two and a half centuries.

Established over 10 years ago, Florida’s Shared-Use Nonmotorized (SUN) Trail Program has been providing paved gateways for our communities to get out and explore our state’s natural beauties and hidden gems. By expanding Florida’s trail network through this program, we are improving safety and connectivity for pedestrians and bicyclists in these areas.
Take the day to get and out and experience one of these trails yourself! Who knows, you may just stumble upon one of our Florida America 250 Road Trip locations.
Before you go, secure your cargo!
Having unsecured cargo on a vehicle is dangerous and causes thousands of injuries on the road every year, so it is important to make sure anything you’re hauling is properly secured with ropes, netting, or straps to prevent crashes or road hazards.
On this day, June 5, in 1998, the Truman Show was released and introduced the world to the fictional town of ‘Seahaven.’ Filmed in Seaside, Florida, the Truman Show turned this quaint community into a popular tourist destination. Seaside was the brainchild of Robert Davis and is considered one of America’s first master‑planned communities and a model for New Urbanism. Today, the region continues to thrive while balancing popularity with its now historic charm.

The 100 Deadly Days of Summer remind us that small decisions behind the wheel have life-changing consequences.
- Teens are 2.5x more likely to take risks when driving with one teen passenger.
- That risk jumps to 3x with multiple passengers.

Fun fact: Thomas Edison once said, “There is only one Fort Myers in the United States, and there are 90 million people who are going to find it out.”
In 1885, Edison came to Fort Myers and purchased his winter estate, right by the Caloosahatchee River. After enjoying this winter retreat for over 6 decades, the home, along with Henry Ford’s became open to the public in 1947 and is now a National Register Historic Site!
That’s not all – this site is also a stop on our Florida America 250 Road Trip. Visitors can explore areas like Edison’s chemistry lab while learning about their legacy that spurred Southwest Florida's 20th-century development. For location details, visit: https://t.co/ql4ZxyXZik
