so we were reading about Jasper Johns' reluctance to be interviewed, and then suddenly we were thinking: pretty sure Ragnar Kjartansson's (English) interviews r best considered part of his oeuvre, just more performance work really (detailed explication to follow)

yes we marked Ignacio Uriarte's earlier office works as, well, kinda sterile but this show has (drawn) curly hairs and so: a modicum of life, on all sorts of scales. i8, til 4/8.

dreamy is the go-to word for the windows/drapery photos currently filling BERG's small alcove space, and it's the perfect word. Prepare to be overcome by an intense, inchoate longing. Katrín Elvarsdóttir, thru 3/8.

at Hverfisgallerí, Hrafnkell Sigurðsson journeys into nothingness for us & brings back the fresh, the new, the so surprisingly juicy it spills onto the walls, leaving smudges. Thru 28/7.

at i8 it's a seminar in making that perfect-as-it’s-greater-than-the-sum-of-its-parts group show. Attendance is recommended--nei, required--cause missing this platonic ideal of a group show + Thorvaldur's glorious sunscape to boot = a lifetime of regret. Thru 26 May

Solveig Pálsdóttir 's show of collage-like paintings & a few sculptures explored girls/sex/red threads & had a matter-of-fact unselfconsciousness--no slogans, shouting--just like a man's introspection; so: a jewel. Ekkisens, closed.

sorry but the reflection of four Danish artists on colonialism especially re. Denmark's part in "Contemporary Art from Denmark" was about as illuminating as the show's title (ok we didn't watch the entire video from Greenland). Thru 21/5 Hafnarhús.

ok the structure of Draft of Contemporary Art History in Iceland [1.0] eluded us but structure = over-rated & no doubts 'cause the show's messy, nature-driven works ruled. Hafnarhús til 1 May.

with Anna Fríða Jónsdóttir at Hafnarhús there were rocks underfoot, a couple of waves-crashing projections (with sound) & a make-your-own-tone bar. Hopes of a symphony? Dashed. Thru 21/5.

ok it was another Kristinn E Hrafnsson show. But prolly you haven't seen actual cornerstones (straight outta a genuine, full-pie stone) before. Or a mixed-up pendulum/super-sized-maraschino-cherry-in-disguise. Hverfisgallerí, closed.

you remember paper dolls, right? Well Hard-Core's Silicon Dreams was kind of like that, but for grown ups (so: more theory, some sex + instead of a doll, a moving robot-as-trophy-object). Harbinger, closed.

sure you could call Hekla Dögg Jónsdóttir's show at Kling & Bang elegant and smart and full of ideas but you might also say: a whole lot of posing and a confetti machine so cute, watch out for toothaches. Thru 11/3.

ok "distant matter" at Nýló keeps the viewer at a distance & a lonely feeling is not impossible. But on a sunny afternoon? Then it's a grand, strange crash of hanging print (all theory) + window shadows (so much concrete). It's real time (what do you know). Thru 11/3.
