This new Deanteโ Hitchcock album is fantastic. You might know him for his work with JID or Revenge of the Dreamers 3, but heโs somebody who always had a ton of talent and never really got the recognition he deserved.
Well, hopefully that changes with this project because โJunkie in the Sunโ is one of the best albums of the year. Against the vibrant production are more serious stories of su1cidal thoughts, self doubt, fatherhood, & more. The album is extremely cohesive despite touching on a wide array of topics, and it makes sense that most of the production was handled by Brandon Phillips-Taylor (I love when a rapper & a producer lock in!).
Itโs a very warm album and a very human album. Deanteโ captures the human experience very well where one day youโre riding high and the next youโre at the lowest of the low. The guest features are great, there are only a few and you can tell they were carefully chosen: Samara Cyn, 6lack, Childish Major, J.Wes, & Anna Field.
โJunkie in the Sunโ just feels so intentional and the effort & love that went into it radiate on every track. It feels like a resurgence for Deanteโ and I hope he starts to get those flowers he so very much deserves.
