Depression doesn't make you "wrong." We don't need to be on an endless search to fix ourselves - because we're not broken. Depression makes us normal. It's really shitty - but it's normal. Look after yourself as best you can but please don't feel you need to be anyone different.
Anyone else got an amazing therapist they feel so thankful to have? I've let mine know a few times but I'm not sure it'll ever feel enough! #mentalhealth#therapy
@CapitalistFraud Absolutely - you're right. Everyone is different. Sometimes people feel nothing but relief. I suppose I can only talk through my own experiences. Thank you for sharing yours π
@GrazReed@mbelcevic I'm not sure if there's limits to what they can prescribe in terms of psychiatric drugs? I've only been prescribed anti-depressants and I know they can prescribe anti-anxiety meds too. Not sure about anti-psychotics, mood stabilisers, etc. I have no idea.
These are all the psychiatric drugs I've been prescribed in 5 years.
I am all for psych medication, if it helps (it has helped me when I used to take it) but we need to change the way we're prescribing it. A 𧡠1/x
@mbelcevic Yes, I've been prescribed antidepressants by two separate GPs. The first time I was given them it was on an A&E ward and not by a psychiatrist. I have been prescribed meds by a psychiatrist too, though. 1/2
In other words, we need transparency, choice, & for patients to be well-informed by their medical professional. We shouldn't have to cycle through medication, either avoiding horrible side effects or finding it impossible to come off a drug. Nor should it be our first option. 5/5
3. Don't tell us it takes 2 weeks to come off antidepressants; it's total bullshit and GPs should know this by now. It can take months of concerted effort and the side effects can be really tough. I experienced brain zaps, nausea and more. Be honest. 4/x
Sharing Sunday (it's a thing I'm starting, I've just decided):
What or who has been the most instrumental thing or person in your mental health journey? Tell me how and why π
I've made a website for my book - it's very much still a work in progress (no proper homepage as yet). But you can always trust me to get a blog post out first! https://t.co/0xnuct1CFW
