@adeletaytay@Jesse_bslade When Listen from Dreamgirls was nominated for an Oscar, it had 4 writers credited including Beyonce. The Academy only allows up to 3 writers (if 3 contributed equal amounts) to be named. Beyonce contributed the least & was not included in the nom.
@adeletaytay@Jesse_bslade I’ll add: most know Bey isn’t a songwriter. She has writing credits on nearly every track she is on. Writers who have worked w/ her directly have described her as writing some vocal melodies, harmonies, arrangements- it’s part of co-write & deserves the credit.
@Hoesemite_@adeletaytay Interestingly, her sampling brought up lots of discussion about how to give credit/controversies… some people had felt tricked out of credits/royalties on some of these songs in the past. Renewed attention/$ due to the sample is bittersweet. Read about: Robin S “Show Me Love”
@Hoesemite_@adeletaytay Knowing what I know about Bey, she’s very supportive of other artists, esp women. Looking at the album’s sample list- great songs/artists she’s homaging, some near forgotten/under-appreciated.
@getawaycarvic The character of Jess succeeding in finding his own stability mentally/emotionally as well as in the path of his adult life/livelihood, PLUS the fact he remains completely accessible, makes it pretty clear that if Rory wants a romantic, committed relationship, he’s the end game
@getawaycarvic Jess and Rory each make the other feel fully seen & understood like no one else, like in terms of their core identities. It’s clearer as they age and have both changed a lot that’s the reason they feel “it” even when they don’t know each other well anymore & need to catch up.
