What I find really fascinating about WFHTDH lyrically is that this song is practically tracking Lana spiral into madness, battling herself between this devoted housewife persona and everything she’s always been before that.

She frames it as voodoo, like she’s genuinely dazed and altered by him, almost possessed by the version of herself he brings out - But at the same time, the “old Lana” keeps fighting her way back, clawing through the cracks within retro strings and classic iconography like bummer, daddy, cocaine, bows, cherries, nicotine, etc. all the familiar markers of her past identity.

I think the song is supposed to feel scattered, sporadic, and scary, because she doesn’t even know which version of herself she’s supposed to be...
