K.R.S. Reservoir has entered the monsoon with one of its lowest end-June storage levels in the past 20 years. Water storage has plunged to just 11.233 TMC (22.72% capacity) this year, while inflow has crashed to 530 cusecs. Weak monsoon rains in the Cauvery catchment have raised concerns over drinking water supply and irrigation in the months ahead.

The Government of Karnataka must not dilute its long-standing commitment to wildlife conservation for political considerations. Conservation must take precedence over convenience.
