Q. […] What led you to this collaboration (with IU), and how was the experience of working together?
Crush: I’ve personally been a fan of IU for a long time, and I’ve always had a lot of respect for her as an artist.
While working on the song, I came to feel that IU was the only person whose voice would truly suit it, so I reached out to her with the offer. And I was really happy when she readily accepted.
In fact, this song wouldn’t have seen the light of day if it hadn’t been for IU. We spent a lot of time discussing the song and exchanging ideas, and I feel that the final result turned out even better than I could have imagined. I’m truly grateful to her for that.
What particularly impressed me while working with IU was the delicate care she puts into the music and lyrics. There were moments when her voice brought out emotions in the song that I hadn’t even noticed when I was working on it alone.
I was also curious to see how our two distinctly different voices would blend together in the song, and I became even more surprised by just how well they complemented each other.
It was an incredibly precious experience, and one that I’ll remember for a long time.
Q. You also filmed various pieces of content together, including the music video and a live clip. Do you have any behind the scenes stories from filming with IU that you’d like to share with fans?
Crush: First of all, I found myself thinking, “There’s a reason IU is such an acclaimed actress.” (Laughs)
I saw how thoughtfully she approached not only her character’s emotional throughline, but also the overall flow of the music video and even the smallest details of each scene.
I was especially impressed by her level of concentration and how completely she immersed herself in the filming. Watching her up close, I felt there was so much I could learn from her.
To be honest, I was pretty nervous during filming, but IU was so experienced and made everything feel so comfortable that I was gradually able to relax and immerse myself in the process naturally.
It was my own music video, but I think I ended up relying on her more than she relied on me. (Laughs)
