AI truly scares me.

I’m not even sure why exactly. But seeing how rapidly it has advanced over just the last year, not to mention how far it’s come in the last 3–5 years, is insane.

I know a lot of people believe AI will eventually lead us toward some kind of utopia, where it can do things more efficiently than humans, solve problems we never could, and achieve breakthroughs that genuinely make the world better.

And I agree that’s possible. I think AI is going to help us accomplish things that would have sounded impossible not long ago.

But I can’t only look at the upside.

Any technology with this much power and potential for good also has an inverse. The same tools that can cure diseases, improve productivity, and expand human knowledge can also be used to manipulate, deceive, replace, control, and destroy on a scale we’ve never dealt with before.

What scares me isn't just what AI can do now. It’s the speed at which it’s improving, and the fact that we have no real idea what this looks like in another 5, 10, or 20 years.

Human beings are about to have access to an amount of power we have never had before.

History gives me very little confidence that we’ll only use it responsibly.
