The Islamic Republic has every reason to keep oil markets disrupted and gas prices high. A few more months of Americans getting squeezed at the pump could put enormous pressure on Trump and cost Republicans in the midterms.

If you think the Iran-backed Houthis threatening Saudi oil infrastructure and shipping through Bab el-Mandeb has nothing to do with Iran’s broader strategy, you’re ignoring the obvious benefit to the regime.

Making this war expensive enough that Americans demand a way out gives Iran exactly the leverage it wants, which is also why I don’t think Trump will enforce any sanctions on Russia before the midterms… oil and the global economy is everything right now, and both sides know it.

The Houthis say they’ve hit Saudi oil facilities in Yanbu and sites in Riyadh.

We still don’t know how much damage they caused. But Yanbu is where the Saudis can export oil without going through Hormuz.

If that route is disrupted too, this becomes a much bigger problem for the global energy market.

1. I’m not claiming that India is better than America in any way.

2. A country’s economy isn’t an IQ test. Institutions, policy, and opportunity matter, obviously.

3. I’m talking about Indian kids in America, which I clarified in the thread in a response to another commenter.

4. These kids earned academic honors in Texas. What does India’s economy have to do with whether they deserved them?

5. Indian Americans have exceptionally high educational attainment and I believe strong demands for foreigners seeking education here is good, and we shouldn’t look down on things like this if it’s not indicative of a “white replacement,” which it’s not.

I love my own people and want to limit immigration as much as practically possible.

The difference between you and I is that I don't see people with a darker skin tone and think they're less than or believe that there is nothing they can do to become a productive American.

As a former National Merit Scholar, I'll say this simply so that you can understand:

There is no way to game the system here, it is merit based

The founders believed that your ancestry should not determine your destiny - you work hard, you build, you contribute to society, you succeed

Indian Americans studying hard, raising high-achieving kids who become doctors, engineers, and entrepreneurs is not a problem America needs to solve

You'd be upset if they weren't successful and mooching off society, you're upset that they ARE successful -- it's almost like their success is not what upsets you
