Most of this you have to learn from story hints, the game doesn't just hand you all the information. There is a logic to it though. Putting an experienced cook in charge of food rations, or a nurse in charge of medical supplies work because they make sense

As an actor, I’ve always had a pre-show ritual. For reasons I can’t quite explain, I do physical warmups before I go on stage.
Last night, I didn’t do that. I drew a blank on a lot of my lines and ended up ad-libbing far too much of the play for my liking.
